Water Stewardship in Drought Conditions – May 13, 2:00 PM
On May 13, 2021, the Lake County Winegrape Commission and Lake County Farm Bureau hosted a webinar to help farmers manage their water usage during drought conditions.
Clay Shannon, Shannon Ranches & Shannon Ridge Family of Wines, Bryan Rahn, Coastal Viticultural Consultants, Cameron Mauritson, Thomas Mauritson Vineyards, Broc Zoller, PhD, Zoller Vineyards, and Sheriff Brian Martin provided valuable information.
Certified Organic Versus Certified Sustainable Webinar
On February 11, 2021, California Certified Sustainable Winegrowing auditor, Emily Farrant, Two Leaves, LLC, Tony Britton, Marimar Estate Vineyards and Winery, and Ariel Russell, Auditor for Certified Organic and Certified Sustainable Winegrowing discussed the key differences between the certification processes.
Wine Enthusiast Webinar: How Volcanic Soils Create ‘Intensity of Place’
“Volcanic wines” is an emerging category of wines that is as fascinating as it is rare, and yet little understood. How do volcanic soils influence the growth and production of various wines? What challenges do volcanics soils present? What qualities do they impart to wines like Cabernet Sauvignon?
Jim Gordon will host Joy Merrilees of Shannon Ridge Family of Wines, Peter Molnar of Obsidian Wine Co., and Master Sommelier John Szabo as they explore volcanic wine regions around the world, most notably Lake County.

Certified Sustainable Webinar
On December 3, 2020, California Certified Sustainable Winegrowing auditor, Emily Farrant, Co-Founder, Two Leaves, LLC, demonstrated the process of becoming Certified Sustainable.
Emily went through the online procedures for preparing certification audits and instructed on how to log into the portal and complete the assessment process. She also reviewed best practices for managing the documents that auditors need to assess conformance.

Lake County SOMM Camp 2017For three days in early June, 16 sommeliers from major restaurants in Chicago, Seattle, Las Vegas, New York City, Los Angeles, and the San Francisco Bay Area attended Lake County SOMM Camp. This event was presented by the Lake County Winegrape Commission in collaboration with The SOMM Journal. It offered a unique opportunity to provide key influencers in the wine trade with a first-hand experience of the region’s wines, winemakers, winegrape growers, stunning landscape, and burgeoning food-and-wine scene. |
