Broc Zoller, The Pear Doctor
Broc Zoller, elected to the Lake County Commission Board of Directors in 2012, is focusing his work as a director in helping the Commission continue its promotional activities and grower assistance.
“I hope to support the successful efforts made by others in furthering recognition of our unique and beautiful growing region and the quality grapes and wine produced,” he said.
A Lake County farmer since 1981, Zoller is a producer of sauvignon blanc winegrapes and walnuts. He also owns a pear orchard. As president of The Pear Doctor, Inc., his Kelseyville-based business, he has worked as an independent agricultural advisor to pear and winegrape growers in Lake County since 1972.
Zoller’s ties to Lake County are strong. He has served on several Lake County committees and boards. They include the Lake County Genetic Engineered Crop Committee, and his current committee work includes the Ely Stage Stop Committee, the Kelseyville Pear Pavilion Committee and the Winegrape Commission. He is a member of the Lake County Farm Bureau.
Zoller also currently serves Lake County statewide on the California Pear Advisory Board Research Committee, which reviews and selects current research proposals for industry funding. In addition, he is serving California nationally on the Tree Fruit Technical Action Committee, which formulates technical responses on international trade and phytosanitary issues, and is part of the Organic Tree Fruit Industry Working Group, which provides scientific input on organic production issues.
Zoller is a University of California, Davis, graduate, having received a bachelor’s degree in plant pathology in 1966 and his doctorate in plant pathology in 1972. He has authored or coauthored more than 50 articles and abstracted papers reporting results of pear pest and disease management research projects in California, and he has provided consultations in Australia, China and Chile on production and trade issues.
The U.S. Army veteran resides in Kelseyville with his wife of 41 years, Sharron. The two have three children, Molly, Zachary and Analiese, who attended Kelseyville schools.
