Lake County Wine Industry Builds Momentum with Seminar Series
Kelseyville, CA – Momentum 2015 on Monday, April 13, 2015, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Soper-Reese Theatre, 275 S. Main Street, in Lakeport.
Building on the success of last year’s inaugural series of seminars, this annual half-day event will focus on the market demand for Lake County winegrapes and wines. The afternoon will kick off with a keynote presentation by Christian Miller, proprietor of Full Glass Research and research director of Wine Opinions, who will share the results of his supply-demand analysis for Lake County Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Following the keynote, Peter Molnar, chair of the Lake County Winegrape Commission and co-founder and partner of Tricycle Wine Company, will discuss the state of the industry and Lake County’s place in it.
Following the two presentations, a special “Ask a Winegrower” panel discussion will bring together several experienced Lake County winegrowers to answer questions from the audience. Panelists include Christian Ahlmann, vice president and vineyard manager for Six Sigma Ranch; Keith Brandt, director of compliance for Shannon Ranches; Cameron Lyeth, sales manager for Beckstoffer Vineyards; Jonathan Walters, director of farming for Brassfield Estate; and David Weiss, owner of Bella Vista Farming Company.
Following the panel, attendees will experience “The Developing Style of Lake County Sauvignon Blanc,” a technical tasting led by Joy Merrilees, director of winemaking and production at Shannon Ridge Family of Wines, with Jason Moulton, winemaker at Brassfield Estate, and Eric Stine, winemaker at Langtry Estate and Vineyards.
Several Lake County Winegrape Commission sponsors will be on hand to provide information about available products and services, including Allied Grape Growers, American Ag Credit, Belkorp Ag, Bob Bartley Pumps, Knights Grapevine Nursery, Lincoln-Leavitt Insurance, Novavine, Vintage Nurseries, and Vineyard Industry Products.
The seminar will wrap with a wine social showcasing Lake County-appellated wines poured by the Lake County Winery Association, tasty bites prepared by Rosey Cooks, and music by David Neft.
This annual seminar is for Lake County’s grape growers, winery owners, winemakers, tasting room managers, marketing/hospitality directors, and others involved in the region’s wine industry. Presented by the Lake County Winegrape Commission, the event is designed to bring together wine industry experts for discussions about marketing trends and sales techniques, provide an opportunity to explore the developing style of Lake County wines through technical tastings, and connect industry colleagues throughout Lake County and across the North Coast.
Space is limited and advance registration is strongly encouraged. Seminar cost is $20. To register, go online to: www.lakecountywinegrape.org/momentum
