Lake County – The Mountains of the North Coast
Lake County Rising…Welcome to the home of the Lake County Winegrape Commission.
A gem of California’s North Coast Wine Country, Lake County is home to some of the region’s finest vineyards. Our growers are committed to producing exceptional winegrapes and wines.
Besides a long tradition of winegrape growing and winemaking, our unique soils and geology, higher elevation growing conditions and dedication to sustainability in the vineyard allows our nearly 170 growers to produce top-quality fruit for your wine program.
Lake County lies in the northeastern section of the internationally recognized North Coast appellation that also includes Napa, Sonoma, and Mendocino Counties. Lake County is bordered on west by the Mayacamas Mountains, often called the “Axis of Cabernet”, a range that also defines the border between Napa and Sonoma counties to the south. At our northernmost border, the extensive Mendocino National Forest rises to 7,000’ snow peaked mountains.
Because of its natural wonders and compelling wines, Lake County is quickly becoming a true wine and travel destination. Still primarily a rural area dotted with small towns and family ranches, the region is a great destination for hiking, mountain biking, sailing, fishing, white-water rafting, rock climbing, and tasting the wines of Lake County.
We invite you to explore our region and see how we can help you create a top-quality wine program based on compelling vineyards that are sustainably farmed with a strong commitment to quality.
